The sooner the better.
Puppies will be able to be groomed once they receive their second set of shots (10-12 Weeks). We will need the vaccination records upon grooming appointment:
• Bordetella, and DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo, Parainfluenza)
Puppies that are 18 weeks or older will be required to have their updated rabies vaccine, along with Bordetella, and DHPP.
We ask that you wait 48 hours after any updated vaccinations, to make sure there is no reactions, the area is not tender, and to help relieve any stress they may have from their shots.
Puppies under 6 months are eligible for the Puppy Services.
The Breath Refresh includes a teeth brushing, a gel that reacts with their saliva to clean their teeth, and a breath spray. We include this service in the puppy packages to promote a healthy dental wellness and fight against gum disease.
It is ideal to have your pets teeth cleaned everyday. There are a few different options that you can do at home. Some good plaque and tartar control methods are a toothpaste and tooth brush scrub, a daily teeth gel, a daily water additive, and a daily dental chews.
• The gel is really easy to apply, its just one drop on the top gums on each side daily.
• They have a few options for the water additives. Make sure to use the one that says plaque and tartar control. This is a good option for multiple pets.
• Dental chews are great for the back teeth, since dogs mostly chew with their back teeth, causing that up and down motion
• One really good way is massaging each of the paws, and spreading their paws.
• Another good way is to bring different kinds of objects to them once a week. Let them smell it, and then touch each of their nails with that object. It could be a pencil one day and then a highlighter the next. A spoon is also a really good one, because its shiny just like our scissors and this could help us with using scissors around their feet. Doing this exercise will help them not to be afraid of unknown objects coming to them.
• Use anything that vibrates like the Razor Prank App, battery toothbrush, Dremel, or clippers, on top of their paws and nails to get them use to the clippers and nail buffing.
Some things at home that will be beneficial to introduce to your puppy before its first groom:
• Blow dryer (use cool settings on low and then high) Let them get use the the noise and then use on them.
• Razor Prank App (can be downloaded and turn vibration on) You can use this around the head and on the body to get them use to the feeling and noise. Start at a lower noise level.
• Massaging EACH of the paws and bring different objects to each of the nails.
• Brushing at home will not only help them stay maintained, but get them use to the feeling of being brushed.
• Play with the ears by flipping them up/down, massage them, and brush ears with a comb if they have long hair.
• Socializing as much as possible to help them feel more comfortable around new people.
Keeping a routine grooming appointment will also help get the puppy use to grooming.
• For Bath appointments we typically recommend every 6-8 weeks.
• For Haircut appointments we typically recommend every 4-6 weeks.
Every dog will vary on their needs. Depending on their skin, how long they grow out, how dirty they get in-between grooms, or how often they shed. It also depends on your preference.
